Cellphones Can Lower Male Fertility

Men who like talking on a cellphone should reduce their habit. A number of researchers from Queen’s University, Canada, found that cellphone use can reduce sperm quality.

The research team found that the electromagnetic waves emitted by cellphones have complex relationships with male hormones. “Our findings are a bit confusing. We hope to find different results,” said Dr. Rany Shamoul, the research team leader, according to Daily Mail.

The researchers found that men who use cellphones have higher levels of circulating testosterone. Surprisingly, they also have lower levels of pelutein hormone (luteinizing hormone / LH). This hormone is a reproductive hormone released by the pituitary gland in the brain. This hormone associated with male fertility.

According to the study, the electromagnetic waves emitted by cellphones is believed to have two effects on male hormone levels and fertility. This study mentioned that the electronic waves can increase the number of cells in the testes which produce testosterone. However, it also can reduce levels of reproductive hormones released by the pituitary gland.

Dr. Shamloul agreed that the research is a bit confusing. He concluded the need for deeper research about the influence of electromagnetic waves to the fertility of men.

This study appeared after two months earlier, in the UK cellphone users are advised by the government to send text messages or use “hands free” rather than calling. According to the British Health Department that would reduce the users from exposure to radiation emitted by cellphones.
