Drinking Like One of the Guys Could Be Deadly for Women

 By Heather Muse

Those crazy evenings in college when you'd go shot-for-shot with your guy friends might catch up to you as you age.

The amount women drink in one sitting has increased steadily since the 1970s, which is not necessarily badass when you consider that the health risks hit us harder than they do men. As MSNBC notes, women have more body fat and store less water than men do, which means that we metabolize alcohol differently. It also doesn't help that our bodies feature less of the enzyme to break down alcohol, so we get drunk faster and stay drunk longer.

Sadly, that's not as appealing as it seemed when Marion won that drinking contest in the first Indiana Jones movie. The excessive damage from alcohol to your body could include heart disease, brain damage, breast cancer and other health problems like irritable bowel syndrome. (Yar.)

Of course, this is just the latest study to tell us that drinking is bad. Soon enough there will be yet another one extolling the virtues of moderate drinking as a health elixir followed by one that drinking beer makes you seem fun-loving to dudes.-- lemondrop.com
